JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is a "soft" clear gel filler with extraordinary flow properties which makes it an ideal filler material for areas around the mouth and lips. It is especially suited for those with thinner skin who otherwise might not have results that look “real”. 

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is derived from a natural substance, hyaluronic acid, which is found throughout the human body. Sensitivity testing is not required as the hyaluronic acid is so similar to your own tissue.

What makes JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel different from other dermal fillers?

The unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also works to create a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels. What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.

What is cross-linked hyaluronic acid?

“Uncross-linked” hyaluronic acid in its natural form is in a liquid state. “Cross-linking” is the process through which hyaluronic acid is made into a gel product that can be injected into the skin for long-lasting results.

What will treatment with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel accomplish?

Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year.

Is treatment with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel painful?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel allows it to be administered easily and smoothly.  JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Dr. Sikorski  may choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area for you to further minimize discomfort. For lip augmentation, you will normally receive a lip block – identical to the anesthetic block you would receive from your dentist. This insures that you will be comfortable throughout your lip augmentation.

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel and Lips. How do I know how will my lips will look?

Dr. Sikorski will have you participate in your lip procedure to provide feedback on how much or how little change you want to effect. There’s no reason to be surprised by not being able to choose how much augmentation – and where – you want. No, you don’ t need to watch the injection, but between injections of the areas, you’ll be able to say “ I’d like a little more here” or “Add a touch here to give me bit more pout.”

How long does treatment usually take?

The injection process takes only about 15 minutes. You'll also need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment.

What are the possible side effects of JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection.

Can people with different skin tones/colors be treated with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel?

Yes. JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

Injection Pre-Treatment Tips

Avoid blood thinners, anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen, herbal medications, vitamin E and aspirin 5 days prior to treatment. Do not stop any recommended medications, but do be sure to inform our office of any prescriptive or over the counter medications you are using.

Try to eat prior to lip treatments. Waiting for several hours after your lip injections allows the JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel to properly integrate into the tissues.

Post-Treatment Tips

No alcohol for 24 hours and No workout or strenuous activity that increases blood pressure for the rest of the day - this helps prevent bruising.

  • Wait at least an hour before applying makeup.
  • Avoid excessive facial expressions for several hours.
  • Do not rub or massage the area for 24 hours.

The JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel plus BOTOX® Cosmetic Combination

BOTOX® Cosmetic is an ideal companion treatment with fillers. By using BOTOX® Cosmetic along with your wrinkle fillers, they'll both last longer. It appears that by minimizing muscle contraction with BOTOX® Cosmetic, the effects from your filler injections last longer.

When you need more than JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is an outstanding filler product, but sometimes the areas in which you need improvement require a denser formulation. Some deeper creases, particularly deep nasolabial folds, are better corrected by Radiesse. Radiesse has been shown to last a year or more. We will often use a long lasting deep tissue filler such as Radiesse in combination with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, using JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel as the "top" layer to completely resolve the full depth of a facial fold and surface wrinkling.

When facial volume loss is a problem, then Sculptra may be used. This unique product triggers natural collagen production over time, taking the place of some of the facial fat lost through aging or facial hollowness that has a genetic source.
